Action bias
Faced with a problem, people prefer to do something visible over doing the correct thing. Buying a tool is visible, feels decisive and takes an afternoon. Auditing what you already own is invisible and feels like admin. So the stack grows.
Why the new tool rarely helps
Adding software adds another place for information to live. If the problem is that information already lives in too many places and they disagree, another location makes it worse.
The cost is real and it hides
Every point where a human retypes something a computer already knows is an error surface and a version conflict. Each instance costs ninety seconds, so nobody escalates it. Forty times a week, it’s a part-time job nobody is assigned and everyone is doing.
The audit that takes an afternoon
List every place a person re-enters data that already exists somewhere else. That list is your roadmap, already in priority order. Most of it connects with tools you are paying for.
